Here's What Happened

Here it is:


































































I have torn my right lateral gastrocnemius muscle. It will take 4 to 6 weeks of recovery.

Today the physio gave me ultrasound and acupuncture therapy followed by some serious taping.

I trained arms this evening and did most of the exercises either sitting or lying down. However I had no trouble doing triceps pressdowns. Tomorrow morning I am going to try swimming with arms only. This way I can still get my cardio but not involve my legs.

I will keep you posted.

can you say OUCH?!?! Oh Tosca, i'm so sorry! Will pray for quick healing. youch. but you are a great example: got injured, did some basic care at home, went to the doctor...you didn't let it slide! thanks for being you...tough, strong and SMART~!

Tosca, I am so sorry for your injury. I am incredibly impressed with your grace about it. You will continue to find things, such as the swimming to keep those endorphins going and your body will continue to be beautiful. You are even more beautiful inside. God be with you for a speedy recovery.

Ooops, forgot to add. I can run a 50K ultra marathon, but a few laps in the pool wear me out! You may be pleasantly surprised with arm only swim. I prefer it. I feel like I glide through the water better and don't tire as easily.

Tosca ~ You're an inspiration in many ways. The first commentor is right about even your willingness to go get taken care of instead of ignoring it as some might do. Good for you - wishing you a speedy recovery.

Thanks for being a wonderful role model for women (especially Moms!) who want to change their lives for the better. I've done a total 180 on fitness in the past 2 years or so and a lot of it is because of the encouragement and joy I see in your articles in Oxygen. Trying to start Clean Eating with the family as well... wish us luck. ;-)

On my comment on the post below I forgot to add that I have also done 3 sprint triathlons (my last one was when I turned 50). I got a great bike - brand name Fuji (Absolute 4.0) - it's lightweight, and really smooth riding. I didn't bother getting the tri-handles - you likely won't need them.

I did the same thing this summer playing baseball with 7 yr. olds...it's amazing how something so small can hurt so much! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

As a physio for almost 15 years, I am happy to see you getting great treatment. Acupuncture always accentuates the healing process! It's nice to see you really live what you preach... good choices all around!! Stay well! :)
