Your Best Body Now College Edition: Getting Your Best Body & Eating Clean on Campus

Are there less than stellar options available on your meal plan? Here are a few strategies to make sure you aren’t one of the many college/university students who gains the freshman 15!

1) Take advantage of the school gym. Usually it’s included in your tuition. They may even offer free personal training and fitness classes.

2) Speak to the management of your school cafeteria and request healthier choices be made available. Even a salad bar would make a difference!

3) Join an intramural sports team and commit yourself to the team between classes. You’ll make new friends, too.

4) Avoid late night study sessions, which often go hand-in-hand with heavy snack binges. You will pay for it later on!

5) Walk everywhere. One of the best features of the college lifestyle is walking to and from classes and around town for errands. Use a pedometer to keep track of your mileage.

Get more tips like this from Your Best Body Now, which makes its debut on September 28th in bookstores everywhere! Learn more about it here.

Please feel free to share you tips in the comments section. I'd love to hear how you manage the often inevitable weight gain that comes with starting school.

Love,
Tosca

Great tips Tosca! I just finished university a couple of months ago and managed to avoid weight gain by sticking to healthier choices in the dining hall like sandwiches on whole wheat bread with lean turkey and loads of veggies, salads topped with chickpeas (for protein), fruit and yogurt. Thankfully, I am an early-morning person because the university gym was practically dead at 6am! By getting in the routine of waking up early and working out before class, I never had to wait for cardio equipment. :)

i love it. i am an older student who commutes to campus. I just pack a cooler of healthy foods like you suggest. I joined the gym for a small fee and can squeeze workouts on busy days between classes. Thanks for the inspiration.
I try to avoid the schools food but when it happens, i stick to the salads..

stock your mini fridge in your room with greek yogurt, almonds, almonds, protein bars, fruits (that will keep longer), string cheese, and other items that will keep when you get an opportunity to get food from off campus.

and WALK. so many students live on huge, beautiful campuses so that should be taken advantage of.
