Back from NYC

Here I am blogging away from NYC. Today was our last day in the city that never sleeps. Unfortunately, I developed a horrible stomach ache from eating airport food today. I really thought I had chosen a clean option, but I believe there was a wheat-based product hiding in my food. I was bloated and uncomfortable all day. We ate at Au Bon Pain at La Guardia airport and while it appeared clean it wasn't... this is an argument for bringing your own food whenever you can. I am currently drinking my fennel tea to calm things down.

Eating:

Breakfast: 9:30 am (at fave breaky spot Pastis... pictured below with my daughters)
1 egg white omelet
Sliced tomato
Oatmeal

Mid Morning Snack: 11:15 am
1 apple
Lunch: 12:30 pm
White rice
Chicken (I could only get a chicken dish covered in a sauce-like coating... this must have been the stomach-ache causing culprit)
Salad greens

Dinner: 6:30 pm
6 oz. chicken breast
Salad
Rice

I was too uncomfortable to have a mid-afternoon snack. Oh sigh. As much as I enjoy visiting NYC, I am always happy to come home to my familiar surroundings and clean food.

Training:

Rest day!!! Woohoo!!

I am off to bed early after my fennel tea... I need some recovery sleep.

Any tips out there for bloating?

Q: How do I eat my egg whites?
A: Scrambled, in an omelet with spinach and tomato, or hard boiled

Tips for bloating.. a hot water bottle or a "Magic Bag" on my tummy helps me greatly (Magic Bag I found at a drug store, corn filled I think, warmed in the microwave)

Tosca, hope your stomach ache is gone and you were able to get back to your routine. I know it is hard to keep the clean eating while traveling! I will have to face it soon on my trip to Hungary. I am already freaking out about it, since whenever I go home I tend to gain at least 10 pounds! (you know hungarian food is heavy, spicy,etc)...soooo any suggestions what to do? how to keep my clean eating?
about bloating: whenever I eat carbs, especially wheat, I am bloated, so I try to drink decaf or caf green tea with half squeezed lemon in it! hope to hear from you soon!!!

Tosca,
Are you allergic to wheat?

Tosca, I am gluten intolerant and had the same thing happen a couple of times. My husband's grandmother made a really good venison stew, but unfortunately added wheat flour to thicken it. I felt horrible the next day. I hope you're feeling better.
God bless

Drink lots of water, and I once read that swimming helps to ease bloating. Not sure why, but as a swimmer in high school, I never seemed to get bloated!

Hi Tosca,
Do you keep track of how many calories you burn a day? Do you strive to burn a certain amount of calories when you do cardio? I've read some things that say the more cardio you do, the more weight you will lose. Do you know if that is true? I've also read when some people are getting ready for competition they do 1 hour of cardio a day. I'm eating clean and doing cardio, but if I want to lose weight faster, should I do more than 30 minutes?
Thanks!

I just bought your family book tonight. Like what I have read and look forward to making more changes. A lot I already do so now onto mopre and hopefully will finally be rid of the excess person I have carried around with me far too long.

Thank you!

I know this is an old post, I was just trying to catch up...it's been a while since I've had chance to pop in.
You might try Betaine Hcl that can be found at the health food store. Seems to help. I read about it in Suzanne Somers' new book, Breakthrough. Lots of good info in there!
